The episode opens with a flashback of Brian Topp in a bar, flanked by people singing and dancing to "Come on Eileen". He accidentally topples one of the men's drinks from their hand and Brian gets punched in the face. Tim and Daisy are in the apartment, watching the telly and Mike is pretending to do military work in a wood. Tyres, a friend of Tim's, suddenly appears at their apartment and is undergoing a series of mood swings.
Tim and Daisy take the dog for a walk after Tyres leaves and Daisy bothers him about his girlfriend. They return and Tim asks Brian if he wants to go discoing with them, he tells him that he is busy. Marsha has a row with her daughter and then proceeds to come down to Tim and Daisy's apartment and row with Daisy about parenthood. Mike, thrown out of the Rough Ramblers following a disastrous eskimo roll, comes to Tim for comfort.
They prepare to go out and force Brian to come with them after he realises that he would be alone with Marsha. They go clubbing and each character is given a DJ name for their character, this is reflected in the credits, with the each actor given DJ names.
IGN gave the episode an "Outstanding" rating of 9.0/10 and said of it that "After last week's so-so episode, this time out, Spaced rebounds in a big way, with its best episode so far. In "Epiphanies" we meet a previously unknown friend of Tim's, Tyres O'Flaherty (Michael Smiley, in a wonderful performance). Tyres is another inspired Spaced character; A bike messenger by day, Tyres lives to go clubbing and dance by night. But as he readily admits ("I just wish sometimes I could control these f**king mood swings!"), you never know quite what temperament you'll find him in. His first scene is a classic, as he storms into Tim and Daisy's apartment, and angrily chastises them one moment, while blissfully dancing to the beat of music only he can hear in the next. This all leads to a clever little moment, in which Tim shows Daisy how he's learned to deal with Tyres' frequent bursts of anger."[2]
